Goldmark Brewery has begun a new chapter. The brewery has passed into the hands of new owners Ethan and Spence, who take the helm following founder Mark's decision to step back from the day-to-day after signing a new recording contract and heading out on tour. Rather than see Goldmark wind down, Ethan and Spence — who had long dreamed of the opportunity — stepped in to keep the brewery brewing and to build on what Mark started.
Meet the new team
- Ethan, Head Brewer. A CIBD-qualified and commercially trained brewer, Ethan brings the technical grounding and hands-on production experience behind everything that comes out of the tanks.
- Spence. An RAF veteran and former software product lead, Spence looks after the direction of the business, bringing an operational and strategic background to the venture.
- Marta. Joining full-time to complete the small founding team, Marta comes from customer relations and administration roles and takes on the customer-facing and back-office side of the brewery.
Together the three form a compact team determined to see Goldmark stay local, keep its identity, and thrive under new stewardship.
What we'll be pouring this Autumn
For the Autumn season, Goldmark will be stocking a core selection spanning easy-drinking session ales through to the brewery's award-winning porter range. Tasting notes for each are below.
- Dave Best — Best Bitter, 3.8%. A dependable chestnut-brown best bitter, beautifully balanced and rounded out with noble Sussex hops. An honest, everyday pint and a reliable friend at the bar.
- Liquid Gold — Golden Ale, 4.0%. A multi-award-winning golden ale bursting with tropical fruit and blueberry character, dry-hopped with Mosaic for a bright, fruity finish.
- Microbus — Session IPA, 4.0%. A refreshing session ale full of citrus and tropical-fruit flavours, dry-hopped with Simcoe and Mosaic. Plenty of hop character at a sociable strength.
- American Pale (APA) — 4.8%. Award-winning and generously hopped, with massive grapefruit and citrus flavours from a dry-hopping of Citra and Comet. Punchy and aromatic.
The Porter Range — all 5.2%
Goldmark's celebrated porters return for the darker months, each built on the same smooth, rich black porter base:
- Black Pearl Porter. A smooth black porter with roasted toffee and coffee flavours — the classic of the range.
- Vanilla Black Porter. A double-GOLD-award-winning porter, smooth and rich, aged with vanilla pods in brandy for a warming, rounded sweetness.
- Amaretto Porter. Smooth and rich, steeped with amaretti biscuits and almonds soaked in brandy for a nutty, indulgent character.
- Black Cherry Porter. Black, smooth and rich, cold-steeped with black cherries in vodka and chocolate — a decadent finish to the range.
